A Thailand Travel Experience
I read that people who spend their money on travel experiences to distant lands are by far happier than those who spend their money on stuff. So before you go out and buy that shiny new car, take a moment to reflect that while your new car may get you from A to B, a true travel experience can take you a heck of a lot further. Though I love shiny new cars and then some having owned a few luxury sports cars in my time, most of my money has been spent on travel.
While there are plenty of travel opportunities around the globe, there are travel experiences in exotic locations that just make more sense than others. And a Thailand travel experience is no exception. Because it could easily make you a better, more fulfilled and culturally sophisticated person than you can imagine. Though you are never too old to travel, there's no time like now to experience the wonders of Asia before the clock strikes midnight.
So before anyone tells you to develop a sense of responsibility be it professional, a family obligation or an aversion to risk, take the plunge and experience some real freedom. Your car over time, could easily become rusty or the engine could run out of steam but the memories of travel will stay with you long after the party is over.
Speaking of parties, why not just go out there and party with as many strangers as you possibly can. You might not remember their names but it's the amazing places you meet them in that you're not going to forget. And you're going to meet some wacky people, become friends and spend outrageous nights of drinking, debauchery and maybe doing the sex thing too.
You'll forget their names the next day. (If, in fact, you ever knew them) It matters not. It also doesn't matter how old you are so long as you are of a consenting age. If anything, it's something you should experience at least once in your lifetime. You may ask yourself - Why in a foreign country such as Thailand?
Simple enough. Because you can and probably will. And it matters not whether you're male or female. You may not do some of these crazy things at home but a steamy one-night romance in an exotic foreign land like Thailand you'd be forgiven. It's just one of those bucket list items you should try, if only once.
A Thailand travel experience is also a great way to indulge yourself in a language you're not familiar with. Going somewhere where you don't know the lingo, just adds to the excitement. At first, you may not think so. You may even think that this actually sucks. It could also be nerve-racking but think of it this way - It's your chance to test your mettle and self-sufficiency in ways few other life experiences will.
You can also turn it into your advantage and get away with many things you wouldn't be able to get away with at home. Besides, it can also be a lot of fun providing you keep it clean. Speaking in a foreign tongue can be character-building not only for yourself but also to the person or persons you're trying to have a conversation with.
Travelling alone, have you ever tried telling a person in Thai that you've been drinking and that you've forgotten where you're staying? You never know when you might need it. Hard to find but perhaps making friends with a Thai who speaks your language is a good idea.
And don't worry about going it alone. The first time I arrived in a foreign country, I actually thought I had found home and that place was Taipei in Taiwan. I actually didn't want to come back to the place I had left. I have since been back to South East Asia many times and I'm thinking that maybe someday I'll lay my bags down for good. No, that will not happen as there are too many roads still to travel.
A lot of the things I've mentioned here are a lot easier than you think and probably more fun than you can imagine. It just takes determination and an open mind. And at the risk of sounding sensational and cliche, travelling alone will give you a lot more me time and I mean that in a good way. Spending time on your own especially in a foreign country like Thailand should accelerate your understanding of how to handle yourself without all the other stuff.
Another Thailand travel experience I shouldn't have to let you in on but nevertheless will, is to try your hand at bungee jumping, zip-lining, para-sailing, scuba diving, kayaking and snorkelling. Or if you insist, whitewater rafting, not that you'll find much whitewater here.
No matter your preference, just do something outside the norm of what you'd usually do at home and while you're at it, push your personal limits. Just remember that when you do travel make sure your Thailand travel experience is not the kind of stuff you'd be doing in your own back garden. There's no fun in that.
Set yourself free and let the unknown challenges that lie ahead take you on a journey of discovery. Not only for yourself but also for the amazing places you'll find along the way. You won't regret it. Only by staying in one place will.
While you'll find McDonald's, KFC and Burger King in almost every town in Thailand, you could stumble upon something a little more extraordinary that will test your taste buds to the limit. So if you'd like to experience an eatery on an entirely different level, you simply have to try some of the unusual Thai street food on offer. It might also awaken you to the implicit ethnocentrism in your food choices and what you define as gross or weird. It may even make you a more culturally sensitive person. Who knows, you even may like it.
Now you can perhaps see why it might be an excellent idea to step out of your comfort zone and to spend your hard earned money on travel experiences instead of all that stuff you won't be able to take with you when you go to the other side. So before you start collecting all that unnecessary stuff you don't need, go travelling.
