Stories from Pattaya

Stories from Pattaya can have some extremely outrageous and often very hilarious undertones. The ones you read in the local Pattaya news or view on television, would make for some thrilling novels or maybe even a movie. Film director, Quentin Tarantino could have a field day here by taking a whole bunch of these stories, linking them together and then releasing a Hollywood blockbuster. Perhaps I should have a word with him sometime.

Some of the ones you read about even seem positively dodgy at the best of times but whatever the real reason these stories reach the media, they are certainly never dull. I can never quite figure out as to why there just seems to be more incidences occurring around Pattaya than anywhere else in Thailand. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of events happening all over the place but the stories coming out of Pattaya, steal the cake.

Stories include commotions in beer bars, drunken rampages, moonlighting, temple theft, pickpocketing, intimidation, murder, drug dealing gangs and all the usual suspects. I am very aware that affairs such as these happen all over the world, but the occurrences here are so much more amusing.

Temple Theft

Stories from Pattaya

Temple Theft

Capture the story on one early November morning, when two young boys were caught steeling money from the donation box at Chaimongkol temple on South Pattaya Road. The youngsters were being held by some monks when the police arrived and where told that 150 baht was stolen because the boys were desperately hungry. It is believed that these boys were homeless and had no parents. Although 150 baht is less than 5 dollars, it could buy a good few good meals for the youngsters.

Anyway, after replacing the money and getting a tender warning from the monks, the kids were hauled off to the police station to have their story checked out. If true, the youngsters would more than likely end up at the Banglamung School for boys in the district of Chonburi near Pattaya City.

Kidnapping

Stories from Pattaya

Kidnapping

Officers at a children and women protection centre in Pattaya arrested a 37 year old man on suspicion of kidnapping and abusing a 14 year old boy. The man was working as a driver for an ice cream company at the time. He was then duly taken to the police station for more questioning where he told the police that he did indeed meet the boy at an amusement shop a couple of months earlier. The kidnapper also indicated that the boy went willingly and had stayed with him for some time thereafter. Yeh! I'm sure.

It turns out that this predator had previous convictions for kidnapping and sexual offenses against minors. The youngster was later reconciled with his mother. I wander where the mother was during this period. It seems that the boy had not been locked up and could easily have gotten away. Stories such as these happen all the time but young boys like these often stay away from school searching for money on the streets.

Dodgy Game of Dominoes

Stories from Pattaya

Gambling

Isn't it strange that an innocent game of dominoes could easily turn into an illegal form of gambling. That is to say if money was to change hands at any stage during play. You are afforded the privilege of purchasing a lottery ticket in Thailand but the general rule of gambling is illegal. So how about the story of four bar girls caught for their dodgy domino display.

While waiting for customers to arrive at their bar in South Pattaya, some girls decided to catch up on a simple game of dominoes. Thai bar girls
frequently play all sorts of wooden games at their bars. To add a dash of enthusiasm to their obvious boredom, these girls decided to cash in some hard earned money from the equally illegal form of procuring customers for services for which I'm sure I needn't mention. Remember that prostitution is also illegal in Thailand yet very few girls if any, get arrested for this highly lucrative activity.

All said and done, some informants spotted money changing hands during a game at the bar so volunteer police set up a sting to observe the antics of the noisy ladies at play. It wasn't long before the unsuspecting suspected that they where about to get entrapped. Once their game was uncovered, the young ladies where duly marched off to the police station together with the offending dominoes and all the cash as evidence.

Yes! I believe all 60 baht or 2 dollars worth. All the girls pleaded guilty for their misdemeanors and paid a small fine before being cautioned and released back to work. Police had once again got their man. I mean girl.

Drug Laced Hamburgers

Stories from Pattaya

Drugs

One of the most hilarious stories from Pattaya that I had come across has to be the drug laced hamburger story. Well! actually it appears funny in name only. Picture the scene when police were summoned to investigate as to why three guests at the Marine Yensabai Condo, in south Pattaya were found by staff lying on their beds in a rather dead state. The word unconscious would normally be associated with this particular phrase.

Anyway, despite an all out effort to waken the dead, one did eventually open his eyes after a time, albeit in a somewhat confused circumstance. Apparently all three guests were brothers from Oman. The men had arrived at the hotel in a disoriented and dizzy condition and immediately retired to their room. As they had all been robbed of their money and valuables, it would be assumed that the room had already been booked and paid for.

Apparently what emerged next, was that the three unsuspecting brothers from Oman had met and offered a lift to two Moroccan guys in their shared taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya. What you should always remember is that by picking up strangers you could very often be led into unfamiliar and extreme dangers when touring Thailand. In fact you should be cautious no matter where you travel. You never know what is around the next corner.

The group had decided to stop for a bite to eat along the motorway for the two hour journey to Pattaya. The Moroccans got out of the taxi and went off to purchase hamburgers for everyone. Soon after eating the hamburgers everything pretty much went blank for the guys from Oman. All three brothers were then sent to Banglamung hospital with two of them still unconscious. The perpetrators have yet to be apprehended if at all.
