Busted Russians
Police set up a sting operation after being informed that there were two Russian tourists trying to sell drugs to some friends and who knows who else on
Walking Street
in Pattaya. Little did the unsuspecting suspects know it, but they where being very closely monitored for their suspicious behavior. Can't you just tell when some people appear to be questionable. Obviously these two petty criminals clearly did not think so.
The Russians were soon nabbed by undercover cops as they disembarked the baht bus at the entrance to Walking Street. After some identification was passed around, the police then conducted a search for any illegal substance and found the incriminating evidence they were looking for.
Because the Russians where taken completely by surprise, they had little if any time to dispose of the drugs they had been carrying. A somewhat pathetic attempt was contrived in trying to rid themselves of the evidence while being body searched, but this proved rather futile.
The narcotics confiscated included a small amount of marijuana in a clear plastic bag, some white power in a tube. Could have been either coke or heroin and a small amount of raw opium in a clear plastic bag. Whether or not these Russians were trying to sell drugs or use them themselves, did they not realize that certain drugs are highly dangerous. Well! clearly not.
A urine test was ordered for the two men and the results proved positive for the use of illegal drugs. The Russians were now in a tight spot and soon confessed to taking drugs but they further claimed that the drugs were definitely not for sale. Yeah! Go and tell that one to the judge.
Can you believe it, neither Russian wanted to admit to being the owner of the said drugs found. I suppose that in all likelihood, the drugs belonged to someone to whom they do not know. Yeah! very unlikely. Go and tell that one to the judge too. Both these lads are have now been charged with the possession as well as the partaking of illegal narcotics. They now face legal proceedings and an undisclosed fate. Don't buy or sell drugs ever.

Arrested Russians
In the early hours one morning, police arrested two young Russian dudes for possessing fake credit cards. Well! this happens all the time doesn't it. Not only were they arrested for the fake cards but they also had in their possession fake passports, fake bank books and some 700,000 baht cash. Apparently the cash was real and yeah! these are real Russian Stories too.
An astute (wide-awake) bank clerk at a branch of the Siam Commercial Bank noticed the Russians trying to obtain 40,000 baht illegally using one of the fake credit cards and dutifully notified the police. The would be robbers were seen rushing away from the scene in a Toyota Camry getaway car. A getaway car in Thailand! It's practically unheard of here.
It's not that easy get away in a hurry in Thailand unless you are in
Isaan Territory
Certainly not in a built-up seaside resort as it was in this case. Did the naive men really think that they had a good chance. The car was spotted parked outside a restaurant not far off. What were they thinking!
Before any more getaways could be a fore-see-able option, the men were caught red-handed, red-faced and easily read all over. Was the getaway car perhaps stolen too! The men now face charges of so many things that this offense will see them getting a rather hefty jail sentence anyway.
On a quick note: Later that same day, a young Thai drug dealer was caught and found to be carrying fake Yaba* tablets, fake Ecstasy tablets, fake heroin, and fake marijuana. Now how can marijuana possibly be fake!
The police report must have got that one wrong. The poor drug dealer had just been released from prison and was looking forward to his new career. Well! now he has to go back to jail. Don't they ever learn that crime just doesn't pay. Well! we would like to think so anyway.
Isn't anything real here! Oh! Yeah! the 700,000 baht was.
*Yaba is a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine. It simply means crazy medicine in Thai. The drug is popular in Asian communities as well as the USA and is increasingly available at rave and techno parties.
These and other Russian Stories continue to capture the headlines around Thailand.
