Non-Immigrant Visa Application
Application for a Non-Immigrant Visa are for foreigners who would like to stay in Thailand for long stays. Apart from single and multiple entry visas, there are a quite a few other options for you. Perhaps you are over 50 and would like to retire here one day. Maybe you would like to know more about doing business in Thailand or you have met a Thai girl or guy that you would like to marry. All of these require various visas. You will of course need to acquire all of these visas in your own country before arriving in Thailand. For more information you can go to

Single-Entry Non-Immigrant Visa
I personally don't see the point in obtaining a single-entry visa as the benefits are not that substantial apart from allowing you a stay in Thailand for up to 90 days with an extension of a further 30 days. This extension may be granted at any local immigration office in Thailand for a fee of 1,900 baht. The single entry is also restricting. So apply if you are wanting to come to Thailand for up to 120 days and do not need additional multiple entries. A further visit after this period would require you to obtain a new visa outside Thailand. Cost for this visa is around $50.
Multiple-Entry Non-Immigrant Visa
Now the Multiple-Entry Visa makes more sense to me as firstly it is valid for 12 months from date of issue, allows for a stay of up to 90 days at a time and can be used for multiple entries. I recommend this visa as you will receive a 90 day stamp in your passport on arrival. Once this period has expired, you will be required to leave Thailand briefly at any chosen exit point, after which you may return immediately and receive a further 90 day stamp. You may do this multiple times if you so wish during the validity of your 12 month visa which will commence from date of issue and not from the date on which you enter Thailand. Your first 90 days will be stamped into your passport from the day of your arrival.
Take a break in Cambodia or Malaysia
Why not take this opportunity to visit Cambodia or Malaysia for a couple of days. Both countries are closest to Thailand. A short stay entry visa for Cambodia can be easily obtained in Thailand. I once booked a three day tour through an agent in Pattaya, drove to the border and the visa was immediately issued to me. For Cambodia you will receive a proper single entry visa valid for three months. The cost is 1,200 baht. Should you prefer to fly to the capital Phnom Penh in Cambodia, you will be issued with a visa on arrival. Cost is $20 and is valid for one month. You will have to pay an additional $20 when you leave. I did this trip the following year. Flying time from Bangkok to Phnom Phen is 1 hour. Let me tell you that Cambodia has some fascinating stories and well worth a visit. So take a break and see the fascinating sites and sounds of Cambodia or Malaysia. I'd love to hear your stories
