Metal Art

Traditional Bronze Sculptures

Thai Metal Works

The Thai metal art market was something that I discovered when I first arrived in Thailand during one of my many travels around the world.
I could not resist the temptation to purchase some of these unique art pieces. So I stopped, shopped and exported a whole container of these huge monster metal artworks back home. Check the Samurai below.

I was led to believe that if one is going to do anything at all then one may just as well go big and that's exactly what I did.
I can hardly move around the house now without the feeling of living in an art gallery or museum. Should you have seen the movie Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller, then you should know what I am referring to.

Now that I have all these fine artworks seemingly seizing a stranglehold around the house (including my own creations), I sense a feeling of too much baggage. My first passion for travel is screaming at me again. I have since made the decision to donate most of these artworks to another gallery so that I may concentrate on this travel website hopefully allowing myself more freedom to travel.

Many of the younger Thai artists in the metal industry have adapted a more modern approach to art, although you will actively find many craftsmen employing age old methods in creating their handicrafts.
I genuinely believe that many of the Thai artists that I have had the fortune to meet, have such amazing talent in many of these arts.

Modern Scrap Metal Samurai Warrior

Thai Metal Art

The intricate and impenetrable details of the Japanese Samurai in the photo above was created using scrap metals from mostly used car engine and motor bike parts. A timely process of welding all sorts of nuts and bolts together including car brake pads, motor bike chains as well as loads of other scrap metal car parts, was used to create this masterpiece.

The sheer appearance, size and weight of this particular art piece was simplified using an easy to assemble profile that was provided. Incidentally the eyes of the Samurai light up with the clap of your hand. Power is supplied from a rechargeable battery. This particular Samurai warrior stands 2.5 meters high and forms part of my vast art collection.

Much of the older traditional metal art that you see around Thailand is hand crafted in solid bronze or silver. At many of the craft markets, you will observe Thai artists working away at various metal sculptures including a great deal of bronze and silver wall mounted objects, many of which you may purchase. It can be quite fascinating to observe.

I will have to admit that I too have heaps more to learn about the ancient and traditional Thai art scene although I am sure that when you are on holiday in Thailand, you shall be amazed and intrigued with all the influence surrounding Thai culture with reference to the arts.

There is just far too much to absorb when you are abroad so my aim is to keep it light and simple for you to understand. The rest you can ingest as and when you are in Thailand. Please feel free to ask me any questions relating to the arts. I shall endeavor to answer your questions as honestly as I possibly can.
