Colourful Kites - Bangkok
This is your March Festival Guide to all the many events and celebrations held around one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Should you stumble across any of these festivities during your stay in Thailand, just stop, park your vehicle and go and enjoy yourself. Most of these festivals can be a lot of fun should you wish to participate or even just to watch. Kite Flying Events takes place all over Thailand between February until well into April. These festivities occur during a period when the south-west monsoon blows over the Gulf of Thailand and marks the end of the rice harvesting season. One of the main kite flying events is held during the afternoons at Sanam Luang in the city of Bangkok. Here the sky's are filled with these huge brightly coloured kites in various shapes and sizes including dragons, bears, clowns and some very unusual suspects. This can be a lot of fun for the whole family. During the month of March many teams from around the world participated in the annual kite festival at Phetchaburi some 120 kilometers or 75 miles south of Bangkok. To get there, you can take the Blue Express Bus from the city's southern bus terminal. Stay tuned in for next years events.

Watch this VideoBarred Ground Dove Festival is a dove lovers delight whereby many Asians from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia as well as Thailand, gather at this event in the southern city of Yala. The highlight is a dove-cooing contest including well over 1,400 competitors. Young prize doves as well as other local products are on sale.
